Deep South Tornadoes and Severe Storms: 4/12/20

Several confirmed tornadoes already today (see Tweets below). New tornado watch covers central and northern Alabama.

Both short line segments and individual storm cells will continue to strengthen well into the evening.

Initial Publish Time 12:45 p.m. (CDT)

I will update this blog post throughout the day as severe storms and tornadoes begin to take shape in the Deep South. The strongest storms are expected from southern Louisiana ENE into central and northern portions of Mississippi and Alabama this afternoon and early evening.

The Significant Tornado Parameter (STP) chart is about as high as this index goes. This index combines unstable air, low level wind shear, total wind shear, base height of the storm and any warm layers developing storms may need to overcome.
