Severe storms hit the Ozarks today with high winds and hail!
Storms from last night created a pool of cooler outflow air which helped to re-energize storms this morning.
After one cell gained strength in Cedar County, the line started to fill in some more.
The first reports of strong winds came in around Ash Grove. A few minutes later, the Springfield National Weather Service recorded a 61 mph wind gusts. 68 mph winds were also reported in Springfield.
Wind damage reports came in from in or near Ash Grove, Arcola, Stockton, Fair Play, Springfield, Galena, Dogwood, Seymour, Omaha (AR), Lead Hill (AR) and Siloam Springs.
There were also numerous reports of half to three quarter inch hail. The largest reports were Ridgeway AR at 1.5″ and Highlandville at 1″.
The storms got better at producing rain as they headed east and south. Some of the heaviest totals (radar estimated) were in portions of Texas, Shannon, Howell and Douglas Counties. (see map).
Here is a vlog stepping through the line of storms and most of the damage reports that I recorded this morning:
